Membership Requirements

New Membership

Eligible veterans applying for first time membership must submit the following information to the Post Membership Committee:

1. Complete American Legion Membership Application.
   
   Print and mail a copy to the above address, together with your dues payment of $40.00. Applications are also available at the Post.)
    
2. Provide a copy of your DD214 discharge.
    
3. Pay the membership dues (amount shown on application). Make checks payable to "Dewey Lowman Post 109" listed above. DO NOT SEND CASH.  HOWEVER, YOU MAY DELIVER IN AN ENVELOPE: 1) YOUR APPLICATION, 2) DD214 AND 3) DUES TO THE POST - THIS INCLUDES AT THE CANTEEN.
    
4. If the information is correct, membership will be approved and then a membership card will be mailed to you.
    
5. Please see expanded eligibility dates below.
    

Transfers

Veterans applying for transfers from your current Post to our Post must submit the following:

1. Complete American Legion Membership Application.
    
2. Print and mail a copy to the above address, together with your dues payment of $38.50. Applications are also available at the Post.)

3. Provide a copy of your DD-214 discharge.

4. Pay the membership dues (amount shown on application). Make checks payable to "Dewey Lowman Post 109" listed above. DO NOT SEND CASH.  HOWEVER, YOU MAY HAND-DELIVER IN AN ENVELOPE TO THE POST THAT INCLUDES YOUR APPLICATION, DD-214 AND DUES. PLEASE DELIVER TO THE CANTEEN.

5. If the information is correct, membership will be approved and then a membership card will be mailed to you.

ELIGIBILITY DATES

Membership eligibility Due to the Legion Act signed into law on 7/30/2019, eligibility for membership in The American Legion has been expanded to ALL VETERANS who have served honorably in the U. S. Armed Forces after 12/7/1941.  Because eligibility dates remain open, all members of the U.S. Armed Forces are eligible to join The American Legion at this time, until the date of the end of hostilities as determined by the government of the United States.

In addition, the Veteran shall have served at least one day of active military duty during one of the dates below, and have been honorably discharged or still serving honorably.
